A bird history includes the room around the bird

PawLine editorial · Published October 20, 2026

Bring diet, housing and household changes to the avian vet, not only a description of the bird.

What to know

Merck's bird history includes the environment, diet and temperature and humidity of the home. A useful note records what changed and when: a new food, a moved cage or a different routine. Label owner observations rather than presenting them as diagnoses.

Keep product labels and photographs available if the clinician asks, but do not delay urgent contact to collect them. Do not attempt clinical procedures from a professional manual. This page intentionally stays with record preparation. A bird-experienced veterinarian should decide the examination, testing and care plan.

Make the next step clear

  1. 1Record exact diet products.
  2. 2Describe the housing.
  3. 3List recent room changes.
  4. 4Bring a dated observation timeline.
